Collection: Wooden architectural elements
While traveling in the ‘tribal areas’ of northwestern Pakistan in the late 1980ties I found out that many local mullahs where put under pressure to construct ‘big’ and ‘large’ and ‘modern’ mosques in order to show how faithful their village was; often paid with Saudi money they started building ugly concrete buildings overhead the existing small rural wooden mosques that stood there for centuries. Beautifully carved wooden columns, pillars, architraves, doors and windows were dismantled. There and then I was able to buy such architectural elements and rescue them.
