A ‘mother’ (?) goddess from Tell Brak, north east Syria, ca 5500 BC. Restored.
Modelled in clay, sun dried and painted in dark brown. She/he sits tall, resting both arms on the knees, and wears a ribbed bonnet shaped headdress. As the face is heavily corroded, no traces of a painted eye are visible.. In contrast with most of those Tell Brak goddesses, this figure has no breasts, what makes it rather rare and opens a lot of questions: did there exist beside the goddesses also male gods?
Height 11 cm, width 6,2 cm. Restored.
