Kilim from the Konya region in Central Anatolia,Turkey. Nomadic origin. Antique piece in fragmented condition, but very interesting as it seems to be woven as a kind of ‘piece of mastery’ whereby the weaver wanted to show all the motifs she could make. The reciprocate red/brown rams horn border proves us that the piece is complete and not half of a piece. In the main field we discover a Saf-like structure, almost as mirrored arches of prayer niches, the white back ground splashed with a myriad of smaller colourful motifs in a complete horror vacuum..The colours are a mix of natural and chemical dyes. Now presented at the exposition ‘Fragments of Woven Beauty’ (look under ‘special events’ on this website). Ca 1925. 125 x 240 cm.
