Small head of a Bodhisattva wearing an elaborate turban in combination with a hair band that has a flower on above the right forehead. (For similar turbans see Jules Barthoux, The Hadda Excavations 1933, plate 79). In his long ears he has earrings with a thick rounded hoop.
Made of stucco; the back shows very good the typical Gandharan technique of starting with a core around which layers of thinner and thinner stucco are put to end with a perfectly smooth surface, that undoubtedly was painted, but now is covered with a clay and soil crust. Well preserved. Gandhara period, 3rd-4rth century.
Height 85 mm (mounted 111 mm), width 69 mm, depth 51 mm. Weight 278 g.
