A small bronze statue of Ganesha, the Hindu god of intellect and wisdom, as well as the god of ‘the beginnings’ (for example he is worshipped when someone starts a business). He is also worshipped as the remover of obstacles and as a patron of arts and sciences. He is the son of Shiva and Parvati, and is always represented with an elephant head. In this statue he sits on a throne, in the company of a rat who tries to climb on the throne (the rat being his vehicle).
Nice patina, due to prolonged ritual use. 19th century or older.
Height 5.4 cm; plinth 3.3 x 2.6 cm. Weight 71 g.
