Şarköy kilim, also often labelled as ‘Manastir’ or ‘Pirot’ kilim, made in Turkey or Ottoman Balkan. Typical for this group of kilims is the use of extremely fine-spun wool, what enabled the weavers to make use of the eccentric weft technique. Whereas most of all other kilims show a stepped rendering of the motifs, here this eccentric weft resulted in the weaving of round and curvy-linear motifs (see detailed pictures).
Entirely wool.160 x 220cm, unrestored, good condition for its age (19th century).
