Kilim fragment from the Bordjalu region in Azerbaijan in the northern Caucasus. The piece still appeals by its sublime color palette, and especially by it’s wonderful pale green and strong red. It shows us three rows of very archaic motifs that by some scholars undoubtedly will be read as ‘eli belinde’ (hands-in-waist) motifs, if not as mother goddess motifs! Early 19th century or older. 115 x 166 cm.
Now presented at the exposition ‘Fragments of Woven Beauty’ (look under ‘special events’ on this website).
