Very rare and highly decorative relief. This terracotta panel consists of 32 smaller panels (20.5 x 31 cm each), to form a relief scene of 158 x 132 (H) x 7 cm.
It represents a scene from the Ramayana: the abduction of SITA (daughter of King Janaka) by the demon Rawana, sitting on his vehicle, a winged giant.
The bird Jatuyu attacks this vehicle so that it falls down from the skies and he tries to carry Sita away in safety but by doing this his weighing to heavy to defend him against the demon.
This panel comes with a thermoluminescence certificate which confirms it’s age (14th -15th century). Some minor damages, but complete.
