A silver belt, executed in niello technique and partly fire gilded, consisting of 15 parts: 13 rectangular parts and 2 forming the clasp. All parts are slightly curved. The niello work highlights floral design that remembers the floral design with similar floral stems on the typical Uzbek embroideries, called ‘suzanis’ . On the inside each element bears silver marks, jeweller's marks and numbers. The attached small rings on the backside of each element enabled to fix the belt on a piece of leather or textile. From the clasp hangs a small silver ball on a double chain. The soft patina on these rings points to a prolonged use, so we can date this belt in the 19th century.
Well preserved, but 2 (old) repairs: one broken hinge was repaired with a silver pin, and the clasp attachment has been re-soldered on the inside (see pics).
Total length 86,5 cm. The rectangular elements 55 x 27 mm, the clasp 104 x 59 mm. Weight 472 g.
